So the other day I saw this video. The video went like this…
There was a child in a pool holding onto a rope. The child was clinging to the rope and his back was to the bottom of the pool. His feet were in the air and you could tell the child was scared. He was clinging to that rope for dear life. This went on for at least a minute. The child screamed in terror, and you could hear the mom in the background talking, maybe even laughing. After a minute or so, the mom walked over to the child and moved him around and put his feet on the bottom of this very shallow pool. You see the child was so afraid that he never even thought to see if he could stand up; he just thought he was going to die. After the child’s feet were placed back on the ground, you could see the child was immediately at ease, and it took him a minute, but eventually, he let go of the rope and started playing in the pool again.
As I was watching this, to be honest, my first thought was- that’s cruel! How could a parent video tape this and let her son scream for help so long! But today, God showed me something different about this video. If fact, it’s kind of awesome…
So is this not what we can do sometimes with God? We panic… fear sets in… our thoughts get out of control and we can scream… WHERE ARE YOU GOD; I’M DROWNING? SAVE ME!! After what seems like an eternity to us, He comes over, puts our feet on the ground, and says,
Child, My Precious, Precious Child, I had you all along. You just took your feet off the ground. Your thoughts got out of control… Take captive those thoughts. TRUST ME. I am here. I am near.
For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh.
For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds.
We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete.
Immediately, peace rushes over us. We are safe. Sometimes, it takes a few minutes, maybe a few minutes more, and we realize what just happened. We realize the FEAR, the thoughts we had not taken captive. We realize we were trusting our own understanding.
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.
whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Sometimes, since we are not children, we can feel a little foolish depending on how loud we were screaming. Sometimes, we can find strength in the lesson we learned to stand and TRUST In the Lord. Sometimes, we can have a little of both of those.
Blessed be the Lord!
For he has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy.
The Lord is my strength and my shield;
in him my heart trusts, and I am helped;
my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.
The Lord is the strength of his people;
he is the saving refuge of his anointed.
Oh, save your people and bless your heritage!
Be their shepherd and carry them forever.
Friends, I have been there. I have been there more times than I can or would like to count. Each time learning a little more about myself and what I have not fully given to HIM. Also, learning and feeling more of His love and grace for me. While I don’t consider myself righteous, except through the blood of Christ, I take comfort in knowing that …
for the righteous falls seven times and rises again, but the wicked stumble in times of calamity.
Because unlike in the video I had seen… God is not recording me for the whole world to see. (Thank you LORD!) He is not talking to someone else while I am screaming… He is there… the still small voice (that can be hard to hear when I am screaming) saying…
It’s ok child…I’m here… Trust Me… Won’t you Trust me? I will show you I’m Here and you’re okay.
God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way,
though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah
There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy habitation of the Most High.
God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved;
God will help her when morning dawns.
The nations rage, the kingdoms totter;
he utters his voice, the earth melts.
The Lord of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah
Come, behold the works of the Lord,
how he has brought desolations on the earth.
He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
he breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
he burns the chariots with fire.
“Be still, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!”
The Lord of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
He also showed me something about this post that I am going to correct after I finish this one… I had said this:
Then God does His thing, if you know Him you probably can relate to what I mean by “His thing”. You know where He takes that simple request and builds on it and builds on it to make a more complete truth, kind of like building an onion backwards. Well that’s what his did for me.
He’s not building or peeling an onion backward. He’s growing an onion…. Layer by layer becoming bigger, stronger in HIM with each new layer till completion! AMEN
Also, this post came to mind regarding this matter.
Lord, Help us to trust You more, less of our own understanding. Thank You for helping us grow. Thank YOU for always being there for us! AMEN!
As always friends,
