God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.”Genesis 1:22
Hello friends, I am back to a somewhat normal pace so hopefully I will be more consistent in my posts. Thanks for your patience. As I have been working with my sister-in-law on her daughter’s wedding I have been trying to be a blessing to her and her family.
It got me thinking about blessings and curses. There is so much on this topic I personally could write a book and others have. There are numerous times in the Bible that blessings and curses are mentioned in the Bible. In which both come from God. (Sometimes, we think that curses come from the devil.<- Not always true)
‘The Lord doesn’t become angry quickly, but he has great love. He forgives sin and law breaking. But the Lord never forgets to punish guilty people. When parents sin, he will also punish their children, their grandchildren, their great-grandchildren, and their great-great-grandchildren.’ Numbers 14:18
It’s kind of scary to think about those things. There is even some debate about whether generational curses and blessing are part of the “old covenant”. As for my opinion,
I think the Bible speaks clearly about certain parts of the old covenant and the Spirit clarifies the rest.
The picture above is part of my family on my husband’s side. We’re huge. When I think of generational blessing I think of them. While this picture was taken on one of the worst weeks of our lives (when my father-in-law passed away) there was so much love, so much joy aside from of grieving.
I believe he left us with many generational blessings. Additionally, I often worry about what I am leaving my children with, a curse or a blessing. Then this verse comes to mind…
See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse— the blessing if you obey the commands of the LORD your God that I am giving you today; the curse if you disobey the commands of the LORD your God and turn from the way that I command you today by following other gods, which you have not known. Deuteronomy 11:26-28
If we choose to obey God we can give them a blessing and their children, and their children’s children. That is awesome to me. Also I may be oversimplifying but it seems simple too. Follow the will of the Lord. This verse kind says it that simply to me too…
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33
🙂 I have also heard it said before and it is so good it has to be Biblical (most values and such are just reworded scripture)…We are blessed to be a blessing.
These last few months I hope I have been a blessing to my sister-in-law and her family. I know the lord has blessed me this weekend by a random house cleaning by my mother. I hope I am sowing seeds that will bless my children, friends, and family. God Bless.
