Okay, so from time to time I follow along with this church that some of my in-laws attend. I love to go to their conferences, small group classes, and their interactive sermons (I know they should probably be called something else because all sermons are interactive but I cannot think what it is called) 😉
Anyway’s they are doing this thing called Strong Challenge. I linked it so you could check it out. Any way the first week was called play. Basically, my understanding of this first week is to show us christians that love to work hard for the cause of our Savior it’s okay to relax.
Now, at first I will admit I was a bit skeptical, after all, we are here for a purpose, right? I still do believe that but this week one key verse was so important to me…
For somewhere he has spoken about the seventh day in these words: “On the seventh day God rested from all his works.” Hebrews 4:4
I know it has been said time and time again, that is what we do Sunday we worship God at church, fellowship with our friends and family for lunch and then do what ever we like ( and for some go back to church that night).
Now to me, after trying some of these things in this challenge, my Sunday’s aren’t very well rested. And that is okay, except…I still need a day of rest. I can do those things on Sunday because church is very important, for fellowship, instruction, worship, reaching and teaching the lost, and other things as well.
However, for me and maybe for some of you it just isn’t very well rested. After, doing this challenge for a week, I have come to see some of the importance in rest/play. While I do believe we need to more focused on our purpose for being here than rest. Hence, 6 days work and 1 day rest. I think we cannot for get that one day to rest, to be completely relaxed, and in our modern world we might not truly understand what relax means.
I encourage any of you friends, to do this Challenge or at least take a day to rest. No excuses, no to do’s, nothing but rest. It is refreshing and despite all that may not have gotten done, it is well worth it. Just keep in mind the 6 to 1 ratio unless you’re doing the Challenge then it is more for that first week.
Be Blessed My Friends
