In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1
There is something about reading God’s Holy Word. It’s powerful! This isn’t too much of a surprise for most of us because of the divine author; not necessarily the people who literally wrote it but our Heavenly Father that instructed these men of God on what to write.
For we know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that he has chosen you, because our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake. You became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you welcomed the message in the midst of severe suffering with the joy given by the Holy Spirit 1 Thessalonians 1:4-6
It is flawless. Granted some may say this or that. But the actual Word of God is flawless.
“As for God, his way is perfect: The LORD’s word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him. 2 Samuel 22:31
“Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. Proverbs 30:5
For no word from God will ever fail.” Luke 1:37
The world won’t understand it, the wisdom it offers is only understood through the Holy Spirit.
What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words. The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. 1 Corinthians 2:12-14
And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe. 1 Thessalonians 2:13
The Word of God is the truth. In today’s culture if it isn’t taught in History, most people consider it folklore or myths. However, the Bible is not just another made up story. It is a truth that transcends History all the way to the future.
Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth John 17:17
If you like to learn about history, you may already know that throughout history different people and organizations have tried to limit, change, and/or eliminate the Word of God. However, no matter what has or will be tried to destroy the Word of God, it will last forever. The Word of God cannot be contained.
Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. Matthew 24:35
Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel, for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God’s word is not chained. Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. 2 Timothy 2:8-10
The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.” Isaiah 40:8
The Word of God is a strong defence against the enemy.
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Hebrews 4:12
Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God Ephesians 6:17
I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Psalm 119:11
Through memorization of the Word, we are able to recall it in our times of need, as comfort and strength.
Then he taught me, and he said to me, “Take hold of my words with all your heart; keep my commands, and you will live. Proverbs 4:4
My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding— indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God. For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He holds success in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones. Proverbs 2:1-8
The Sovereign LORD has given me a well-instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being instructed. Isaiah 50:4
If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. John 15:7
In fact Jesus, even used the Word of God as a defence when satan was trying to tempt Him.
The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. Matthew 4:3-5
He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD. Deuteronomy 8:3
Here are some additional scriptures that I love about the Word of God.
Be careful, or you will be enticed to turn away and worship other gods and bow down to them. Then the LORD’s anger will burn against you, and he will shut up the heavens so that it will not rain and the ground will yield no produce, and you will soon perish from the good land the LORD is giving you.
Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
Write them on the door frames of your houses and on your gates, so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land the LORD swore to give your ancestors, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth. Deuteronomy 11:16-21
I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word. Psalm 119:16
