Made in His Image

God spoke: “Let us make human beings in our image, make them  reflecting our nature … God created human beings;  he created them godlike, Reflecting God’s nature He created them male and female.God blessed them:”Prosper! Reproduce! Fill Earth! Take charge Be responsible for fish in the sea and birds in the air,for every living thing that moves on the face of Earth.”     Genesis 1:26-28

Because God made humans in his image  reflecting God’s very nature. You’re here to bear fruit, reproduce, lavish life on the Earth, live bountifully!” Genesis 9:6-7

Most of the time, I just look at those verses, as God made man, great, wonderful, I knew that on to the next. But today, I thought I’d meditate on that a bit. What does it mean to be made in the image of God? What does it meant to reflect his  nature?  … (oh, then the flood of concepts came I thought wow O_o) So here is what I could manage to scribble down if you got more to add that would be great.

We are made to:

Be a Witness

Most of Us know this (duh 🙂 ) that is, in part, why we are here, that is what Jesus spent his whole life doing from the time he was a boy, even in and after his death. (Luke 2:39-52) NIV

Just like him, we are to be witnesses, the Bible says in Acts 2:31-33 NIV  We are all witnesses. And again in Acts 5:32 NIV

There are also, many men and women in the Bible, that are also witnesses, the Bible mentions the disciples as the witnesses of Jesus resurrection Luke 24:36-48 NIV.

As well as many other references not only as witness to lost souls about Jesus but witness show the world the difference between the followers of Christ.

We are made to be a witness.

Be in Relationships

This doesn’t have to mean, romantic relationships. God created man for a relationships, then after he made man he saw that there was something missing.

Even Jesus when he was here on the earth seeked relationships with people. He didn’t settle for one friend he found 12 of them, the disciples.

We are made for relationships, even Jesus’ friends weren’t the best. They were in a way gossips, selfish, traitors, ect. So I say it again we need relationships.

Be emotional

Ok, so I see a need for a disclaimer first. This doesn’t mean we can punch out our neighbor, or covet/ be jealous of what other people have, there may need to be some discernment for some. 😉

God gets angry, one example is in Exodus 4:14  the Lord burned with anger with Moses. However, it also mentions that the Lord is slow to anger in Exodus 34:6.

God gets jealous, he cannot stand if we put other gods/images in our lives.

God experiences happiness, like when he made the world.

Jesus cried. John 11:35 (So YES real men do cry) :- P

So yes if we are made in the likeness of his image and nature (and we are look at verses at the top) then it is okay for us to get emotional to a certain degree.

Love and be Loved.

God wants to be loved, he commanded it in Deuteronomy 6:5 NIV

He loves, he sent Jesus to die on the cross because he loves us. John 3:16

We are made to love and we need to accept love from God and other people.

Hate Evil and Not Fear Evil

God hates evil and wants us to, too. Psalm 97:10 NIV ; Zechariah 8:16-18 NIV ; Romans 12:9 NIV.

However, I would like to share a statement, I heard and I love. I truly believe it to be a truth, ” Hate the Sin, love the sinner”. I think this can be concluded, in someway, from Proverbs 8:13 NIV where it is talking about hating evil behavior. Also this verse talks about loving and encourage sinners 2 Cor. 2:5-11.

Also God doesn’t fear any evil Psalm 23:4 NIV

We are made to hate evil and fear no evil.

Be holy

God is holy.

He wants us to be holy. Exodus 22:31 NIV; Romans 11:15-17 NIV

We are made to be holy

Forgive and Give Mercy

God for gives us. Jesus..yall know the scriptures (if not message me, I’ll tell ya about him. 🙂

We are to forgive others Matthew 18:21-23 (However, I would like to interject my thoughts here: Often time we forgive on the outside but not on the inside. Jesus forgives freely and completely, we should too.)

Our God is merciful. Deuteronomy 4:31  NIV

God gives more than one chance. Look at Noah, Sodom and Gomorrah. He gave all those people the warning to leave, instead of just destroying them and gave the opportunity of salvation.

We are made to forgive and show mercy to others.

To ask God for …in prayer

Jesus prayed Matthew 26:36 NIV; Luke 3:21 NIV; Luke 6:12 NIV; Luke 18:1 NIV and many more scriptures

God promises to answer our prayers too! Jeremiah 33:3 ; Matthew 7:7-8

We were made to ask God for … in prayer.

Take alone/down time

Jesus did when he prayed. Luke 5:16 NIV; Luke 9:18 NIV

We were made to take some alone/down time.

Have faith

God had faith in mankind. He could have destroyed Adam & Eve, everyone in Noah’s time, Moses’ time, and when Jesus was crucified.

God uses even the smallest amount of faith. Matthew 17:20 NIV

We were made to have faith.

To be authentic

Jesus Is. Hebrews 13:8 NIV

God loves us he created us be wants us to be ourselves despite all the  lies the world tell us we should be.

There are so many natures/aspects of God that  I could probably go on forever. Feel free to add some in a comment.  However there is one characteristic of God that he tells us not to do.

That is judge. I think since he gave us his nature it is soooo easy to judge people, idea’s, or just things in general. However, God says that he who has not sinned cast the first stone. John 8:7 KJV. Also Matthew 7:1-3 is a good, good one. 🙂

The point here is that we are made in the image of God, in his likeness, with his image and nature. Don’t put yourself in a box by saying that, you cannot do this or that…you wouldn’t put God in a box would you?

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.2 Corinthians 9:8

But sometimes even when we know all this, we still doubt just like Moses but that doesn’t get you off the hook for doing what God want you to do. You just might miss out on some blessings….

The LORD said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the LORD? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.”

But Moses said, “Pardon your servant, Lord. Please send someone else.”  Then the LORD’s anger burned against Moses and he said, “What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he can speak well. He is already on his way to meet you, and he will be glad to see you.

You shall speak to him and put words in his mouth; I will help both of you speak and will teach you what to do.  He will speak to the people for you, and it will be as if he were your mouth and as if you were God to him. But take this staff in your hand so you can perform the signs with it. Exodus 4:11-17

“Prosper! Reproduce! Fill Earth! Take charge Be responsible for fish in the sea and birds in the air, for every living thing that moves on the face of Earth.”   Genesis 1:28
