They refused to listen and failed to remember the miracles you performed among them. They became stiff-necked and in their rebellion appointed a leader in order to return to their slavery.
But you are a forgiving God, gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love. Therefore you did not desert them, even when they cast for themselves an image of a calf and said, ‘This is your god, who brought you up out of Egypt,’ or when they committed awful blasphemies.
“Because of your great compassion you did not abandon them in the wilderness. By day the pillar of cloud did not fail to guide them on their path, nor the pillar of fire by night to shine on the way they were to take. You gave your good Spirit to instruct them.
You did not withhold your manna from their mouths, and you gave them water for their thirst. For forty years you sustained them in the wilderness; they lacked nothing, their clothes did not wear out nor did their feet become swollen. Nehemiah 9:17-21 (NIV)
I have been told, that Moses’ journey to the promise land was only ten-day journey. All in all, if they would have traveled straight it would have been an easy journey. However, it took them forty years, where many ( I think none of the original) didn’t get to see the promised land.
Throughout, all their rebellion, all their stupidity/lack of wisdom, God sustained them. But to me it seems like he did more than just sustain them; he fulfilled all their needs. furthermore, they were comforted. It says they lacked nothing, their clothes didn’t wear out and their feet were not swollen. Wow…
It seems their has been a common theme in my readings lately about Gods love enduring forever… I found it so amazing that I wrote a post about it a few days ago but the funny thing is I found it again in a new places as I was studying tonight.
However, this time I noticed the repetition of he is good …. ( on a side note..I find God’s word so amazing how he can show/reveal one aspect of a verse and then turn around and reveal a different aspect)…It is sooo true God is good, He is always good, He is good whether we are in the wilderness or when we are in the promise land.
I just wanna tell you…
He is there, he is providing all that you need. It may not be what you want; it may not seem like there is a purpose behind it, but let me tell there is a purpose.God has got it under control. You are lacking nothing, God loves you, you are his child and he would not leave his children in need.
Now don’t get me wrong, you may say… hey the bills they are piling up, hey my marriage is gone, hey my life is not the American dream, ect (insert your thought here).
Well that is true but the Israelites complained about their situation too but God still said they lacked nothing. And well if you think about it, forty years of eating the same food, everyday it may seem like they were lacking.
I think that is how we treat God sometimes; if it is not what we wanted or how we wanted it done… then we are lacking. STOP!
Stop thinking like that…Truth is God is providing, if you are his child. He is giving you all you need at this moment. Sure there’s more room for are desires/wants but that doesn’t mean God is not providing for you. God gives us blessings with obedience, faithfulness, maybe with time, and definitely in his time. The main point is : God is Good even when we don’t realize it. God Bless.
